Dr. Taylan Acar, faculty member at the Department of Sociology at Boğaziçi University, has studied how the educational levels of women, men, and couples influence marriage behavior in Turkey. Interpreting the data from his research, Acar notes: “It is now unlikely that a university-educated woman would marry a man who says, ‘Don’t work,’ ‘Don’t see your friends,’ ‘Don’t go out without telling me,’ or ‘Give me three children.’”
